Radiography
X-rays use electromagnetic radiation to produce images of the body’s internal structures. They are helpful for detecting chest conditions such as asthma, bronchopneumonia, cancer, and fluid accumulation caused by congestive heart failure. X-rays are also widely used to diagnose musculoskeletal disorders, including arthritis, hip dysplasia, fractures, CCL tears and cancerous bone lesions. In addition, they can assist in assessing abdominal issues, such as foreign bodies, bladder stones, tumors, constipation, and megacolon.
Ultrasound
Here at Clarkson Lakeshore Animal Hospital, we work closely with a Board-certified Internal Medicine specialist who performs ultrasounds and gives specialised recommendations to our doctors, in-house.
Ultrasound enables a more detailed visualization of the abdominal organs than an x-ray would, including the bladder, kidneys, liver, spleen, stomach, and intestines. It also allows evaluation of the heart’s structure, helping to identify abnormalities in the muscle walls and valves—which is important when considering sedation or general anesthesia in patients with a heart murmur.
